One of the trailblazing women we work with is Dr. Reinabelle “Reina” Reyes, the Co-founder and Executive Director of Pinoy Scientists, a platform that showcases the lives of scientists from the Philippines and helps develop their science communication skills, fosters connections with fellow scientists, and introduces new, proudly Pinoy role models to the next generation.

She tells us what it’s like to be in the STEM field and expresses her hope for the future of young Pinoy scientists:

Currently, what does women empowerment look like in your sector?

STEM continues to be a male-dominated field and pursuing a STEM career in the Philippines remains challenging, especially for women.

I would like to see young scientists and allies organizing and advocating for change that will benefit the whole community — and make way for a more diverse and inclusive next generation of scientists in the country.

How do you see the work that you do making an impact for other women in your sector?

As a professor in the University of the Philippines - Diliman, I am privileged to be mentoring brilliant young women and building a nurturing space for their growth as scientists within my research group at the National Institute of Physics.

As Co-founder and Executive Director of Pinoy Scientists, I am also very excited to be working together with allies from WeSolve Foundation to help organize the broader science community for collective impact and bring the above vision closer to reality.
